Craig A. Whisenhunt, Esq. was born in Augusta, Georgia, and has lived all over the United States as well as abroad. As the son of a United States Army Officer and a school teacher/librarian, he was instilled with a devotion to the law and an appreciation of detail-oriented work from a young age. His experiences growing up around the world give him an important perspective on his work on behalf of his clients.
Prior to graduating high school, Craig worked alongside Congressman Frank Wolf of Virginia on various international human rights initiatives. He attended Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia where he continued his human rights work while also earning degrees in Communication, Philosophy, and Political Science. He also founded the first of several technology companies he has owned, where he specialized in complex database design and data management.
Craig earned his law degree from Stetson University College of Law in 2009. Craig continued his education beyond his law degree and has earned an LLM in International Law, also from Stetson University College of Law, and a second LLM in Trial Advocacy/Litigation from Temple University in Philadelphia. While pursuing his legal education, Craig has continued his work with various international human rights organizations and continues to hold executive roles in multiple companies addressing technology needs and data management by attorneys and other professionals.
Craig served proudly as an Assistant Public Defender for the 6th Judicial Circuit for more than five years where he handled thousands of cases ranging from 2nd-degree misdemeanors to 1st degree/capital felonies. He continues to provide important assistance to the Public Defender’s Office in cases involving complex technical issues and in jury selection on death penalty cases.
Craig is also an adjunct faculty member at Saint Petersburg College and has been invited to speak on matters concerning technology in the law at Stetson University College of Law and Florida Bar sponsored programs.
In addition to Criminal Defense representation, Craig also represents clients with business formation and compliance, contract disputes, personal injury claims, and as a victim’s rights advocate.
Craig lives in St. Petersburg with his wife, Meghan, their two sons, and two dogs. In his rare free time, Craig enjoys brewing beer, wood working, running, and most of all spending time with his family.
